Composting Toilet

Happehatchee now has Sun-Mar composting toilets.

Most of us never think further about what happens when we flush the toilet other than making sure it all goes down, when in reality there is quite a lot to think about. Even if you never think about it there are people that are paid to think about it and sometimes those decisions can add many undesirable chemicals back into our water and into the earth. With a little time and thought, there is a better way that  is available to all.

There are two ways most people are familiar with dealing with our bodily waste. The first one is to flush a toilet and have it carried to a large treatment plant. The other is to dig a septic tank into the ground and periodically have it pumped out. Happehatchee land has a septic system.

Because we wanted people to know there is another way to deal with our waste, we installed compost toilets. Composting toilets help keep the environment cleaner.  Instead of putting our waste into the ground and allowing it to seep into the ground water, we can keep it contained, add microbes and air and turn it into nutrient filled soil that can benefit the earth.

Many have never heard of a composting toilet. They have heard of composting kitchen scraps but never toilet waste.

We, at Happe, want to open many eyes to many possibilities to make the earth a better place so we ordered three toilets and so far have installed two. Let the fun begin.

We want to share with you some of the details about the toilet.

There are two toilets that go into a main unit under the floor of bath house.

We bought the Sun-Mar CENTREX3000. This is a multi use unit. It is the largest unit Sun-Mar makes.

The chart below may seem like a lot of details but it took me and a volunteer about 30 minutes to read and figure this out. A small price to pay with long term benefits to all, earth included.

When making any investment wouldn’t it be nice if we all included that little clause, BENEFIT ALL; EARTH INCLUDED.

When we re-open in September we will give demonstrations of our composting toilets.
