Ellen Peterson, Florida’s top advocate for the environment, died in October of 2011 leaving thousands of mourners and seven environmentally-oriented non-profit organizations including Happehatchee Center in Estero.

In 2006, Ellen created the Happehatchee Center, Inc., a private non-profit corporation, an eco-spiritual center, to preserve the five lush “old Florida” acres of riverfront, bamboo, and oaks and to offer to the community the healing powers of being in nature. Since then Ellen’s private residence has been open to the public. The trickle of visitors and friends became a mighty river. Classes and visitors brought in people from 8:30AM to 8:30PM seven days a week. Staffing, programming, cleaning, and security requirements became overwhelming.

Happehatchee is closed until July to work with all who want to co-create a sustainable eco-spiritual community built on a shared vision, mission, nature-centered values and principles. Volunteer Tuesdays is from 9:AM to 2: PM a time to come with dreams, ideas, work clothes and a vegetarian pot-luck lunch.

The Board of Directors with Advisors, volunteers and friends will co-create a sustainable educational and environmental center with sound financial planning and green practices that ensure Happehatchee’s healthy existence and availability for the next 100 years and more.

Please send this press release out to others. Namaste!!! Ann
