Oh Beauty of the Day
Oh Beauty of the day
Beauty, Hurricane, Heart of Heaven and Heart of the Earth.
You, who bring happiness and the Glory;
You, who give us sons and daughters,
Turn your gaze upon us,
And spread your gifts to full hands.
For the essence of our people, make them grow and live,
have them maintain and nurture their altars,
And have them invoke You on their paths and on the shores of the rivers,
In the valleys, and in the shadow of the forests.
For the daughters and the sons.
Free us from all misfortune;
Do not permit the Temptor to appear to the people, nor to speak to them of the sword;
Do not let them slip or be hurt.
They should not be fornicators, nor should they incur sentences from judges;
Make it so they will not stumble, either on low lying paths or on high trails;
So that for them neither in front of their steps or behind,
Have there be no rocks to trip them, or any other dangers.
Prepare them for smooth walkways and clear paths;
Do not permit bad fortune to come to them.
Have them delight in Your existence through voice and expression.
Oh Heart of Heaven! Oh Heart of the Earth!
Oh You hidden Majesty.
Oh East, Oh West! Oh North! Oh South!
You who fill the four corners from one end to the other
And the four directions of the World;
While there is Light, all are present.
Oh Divine One, we are here before your presence and face.
Oh, to You, sacred fire, purifying fire,
You who sleep in the wood and rise in brilliant flames above the altar;
You are the heart of the sacrifice, the bold flight of prayer,
The spark of Life present in all things, and the glorious soul of the Sun.
Prayer to the Maya Ancestors
We ask now in thoughts and soul
That we be united within the pain of one family,
of one nation and of one generation of Sacred Maya,
the Teacher has gone, and the priests have left us,
To return to the destiny of the consecrated ones.
Our Mother Nature,
Thunders and cries in pain because defenders have lain down.
Who now for Her and who for us?
Because they are in mourning. Who will be for her and who is for us?
The struggle is arduous and determined
For the defense and conservation of our Maya culture,
Demonstrated by our Maya ancestors, who were examples, praiseworthy and admirable.
In spite of the sorrows, they never ceased to complete their missions,
always present in all hearts in the times of anguish.
They traveled trails to the four cardinal points,
They traveled mountains high and low, They traveled villages large and small,
They worshipped at altars ancient and new.
They visited villages that were silent and those that were noisy,
They visited families with hope and without hope,
They attended crying sick ones, and they comforted the afflicted and the complaining.
They prayed for the poor, because they were poor;
They prayed for the rich, to soften their hearts.
They cried for the grief of others, they cried for the fallen,
They cried for the martyrs, they cried for the lack of understanding.
They oriented the old and the young, they planted their wise teachings and sacred Maya religion in the hearts of youth and adults.
Oh dear Teachers, you made it impossible for us to understand your message!
The ancestors made offerings for our children, they made offerings to bring the corn,
They made offerings for peace and for love,
They made offerings for the hope of the Maya People for today and the future.
Oh Maya Guides! You have returned to the place of the consecrated.
We wish for your spirits to rest in peace and satisfied,
Because what you planted with your examples and patience on this earth
Was born and with be born in the Maya hearts of today and of tomorrow.
May they rest in peace, those who in life were our Grandmothers and Grandfathers.
